Day 18: Field trip numero dos! We went to the Tower of London—saw the jewels, walked the walls, saw the prisoner graffiti (I think some of the people must have been there awhile because there were some pretty elaborate carvings with coats of arms and everything)—all that jazz. On our previous visit, I actually remember the Tower being more interesting and learning stuff about it. Not so much this time, but maybe it just wasn’t since I’d already been there. However, they have redone all the exhibits since then. New signage and more interactive stuff-videos, games, press buttons learn facts type of things. Parts of the exterior were getting redone too. It seems like that at a lot of the places we’ve been actually. I think they are fixing things up for when the Olympics come. (I’m good at going on tangents) Back to the Tower. Is it bad that my favorite part of the trip was the game where you and a buddy race to see who can get the most points hitting shield? (For the record I lost. But only because the other girl had a sword and I got stuck with a lance.)
After the Tower we went to Borough’s Market. It is a market for just food, and it’s really fun with lots to see. I will be taking you there mom and dad! There are specialty booths and free samples. Cheeses, breads, Greek foods, sausages, flowers, nuts, meat pies, Turkish delight, olive oil, baked goods, gelato---like any type of food and any ethnicity you’d want. Buying something to eat there is cheaper than a restaurant—we picked up lunch there. The market is a permanent one, the booths don’t get taken down, and it has a glass roof in parts so it’s indoors. It isn’t sick and nasty like you’d expect of a street market…it was more like a farmers market sort of feel.
(none of these pictures are that good. Just saying)
Outside part
"Inside" part...see the permanent stalls
More outside-ish part
Holding the meat pie I bought for lunch. It was really good. I felt very British eating it.
It was my favorite part of the day, and my favorite market by far! Spent the rest of the day writing my Galileo paper. Fun fun!
Oh...still wondering about the bag carrying woman part??? Check out this woman we saw waiting for the tube. What is she carrying??? A Scottie dog? Feather dusters? Someone's wig?
