....Because of Big Bens, little Bens, and a spot of rain!

Day Six:
so you know that knot you tie with the bunny...the one where he goes around the tree, through the hole, over a bush, back in the hole etc...etc... well that's what it felt like getting to church. (i apologize in advance to anyone who actually reads this)
8:00* walk to Notting Hill station.
8:10 arrive & board underground train.
8:17 switch trains.
8:40 arrive at stop before Blackfriars station.
8:45 walk along scenic south bank to Black Friars.
9:00 arrive @ Rail Station.
9:01 attempt to pay to get into zones 3 and 4.
9:03 miscommunication.
9:05 purchase return ticket for zones 3 & 4 that I (as it turns out) didn't need/ miss 9:05 train.
9:10 wait on bench for next train.
9:20 board said train.
9:35 arrive @ East Penge Station.
9:36 after determining our map and directions were no good because we exited on a different street, ask a nice girl for help.
9:37 she gives us directions and following them we make it to High street.
9:43 locate ourselves on the map and make our way to the location pinpointed on it.
9:48 realize its a McDonald's. abandon map. use written directions.
9:55 eventually locate a street mentioned in directions. find school that is supposedly across from our church. no church. begin to walk around the block to other side of school.
10:03 not wanting to risk going wrong way again, ask another woman for directions to Malcom Road. follow said directions.
10:10 arrive at church late. our written directions failed to mention church was held IN the school.

On a happier note, despite our 2 confusing hours of travel, our 3 hours at the Crystal Palace ward were quite enjoyable! and best part? (besides still getting treats on a fast sunday) getting home was much simpler.

* times are approximate

Day Seven:
still curious about the title?? well it describes my Monday--it was a day for Ben. and for our first London rain!! it is highly unusual that we managed a whole week without a drop. we had class as usual, followed by nap time (yes, i was able to nap for once!...but probably not a good thing as it must be indicative of my obvious lack of sleep). our adventuring began at 2:00. first stop: Ben's cookies.

i had a coconut cookie. it was just their regular cookie dough with liberal amounts of coconut mixed in. very good.

next stop: Big Ben!
Brianna, Natalie, and I then made our way to Primark, while the others went off to do an Austen assignment at the National Gallery. Primark is just a big clothing store. It has cute things for cheap prices--38 pounds got me a pair of shoes, a bracelet, a locket, and two cardigans. the downside? sooooo many people. i was a little overwhelmed by the crowds, it felt like sensory overload. we rode the bus home to avoid the tube strike that was starting at 5:00. The bus was packed. (can't imagine what it was like today)

following dinner, the night concluded with pages upon pages of reading for Great War and Bible.

(all this for one class... those are multiple page packets)

Day Eight:
due to the tube strike we avoided the tube and spent the day wandering about Notting Hill. nothing too eventful. found some cute shops and a birthday gift for Hannah. did find one delicious chocolate shop, Melt, where they hand-made all the chocolates in the shop (you could watch them). Mom and Dad i will take you there. it's making the list. dinner was followed by a walk/errand run with just a few of us. and then the night concluded with nearly all of us students watching Notting Hill. *very fitting considering we visited there today. coincidence-unplanned* and see this picture i took...

i swear they show this street in the movie...it may or may not be the one Hugh Grant lives on...
anywho it's time for bed! we're off on a field trip tomorrow! details to follow
xoxo
